    Responsibilities Include:


    As a Senior Power Engineer/Researcher within INL's National & Homeland Security (N&HS) Directorate, this position will lead and direct research in innovative power testing and analysis of generation, transmission and distribution systems within the critical infrastructure protections and resilience mission.

    Provide technical direction to analytic efforts, research endeavors, technology solutions and business development support for the power research community, including US public utilities, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), the Intelligence Community and other government agencies.

    Assist in developing and implementing research plans and business strategies that result in significant impact to the N&HS mission space.

    Facilitate the successful implementation (cost, schedule, safety, security, environmental compliance, and quality assurance) of associated projects and programs; develop and maintain active relationships with key clients and strategic partnerships with key external partners; provide national and INL technical consultation in areas of expertise, and work as an effective colleague with other researchers, line managers, relationship managers, and professional technical/administrative staff from across the INL.

    Depth of technical knowledge should include several of the following areas: commercial power transmission designs, including protection devices, transformers, generators, control systems, and communications; inverter-based resources with a focus on test hardening and vulnerability assessments including understanding Smart Grid Technologies, Renewable Integration, and Grid Modernization of a clean energy future.


    Minimum Requirements:

    PR03:
    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience or Master's and 3 years or PhD and 2 years

    PR04:

    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience or Master's and 6 years or PhD and 4 years.

    Ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance and SCI access, and willingness to complete a US Government polygraph upon request, which requires U.S.

    citizenship.

    Preferred Requirements:
    Preferred candidates will also have a combination of the following:
    In-depth knowledge of control system protocols, including DNP 3.0, Modbus, ICCP and IEC 61850.

    Working level understanding of cyber risks associated with each industrial control system (ICS) components, protocols and the networks on which they operate.

    Experience with high and medium voltage design, including substation electrical design, switchgear design, transmission line design, etc.
    Experience with the design, operations, configurations of generation systems, especially gas turbine systems.
    Experience with designing and integrating renewable energy systems.
    Experience with concept-to-scale testing/commissioning
    Experience with NERC CIP and other regulatory compliance issues.
    Experience with modeling electric power systems, ideally using multiple tools including PowerWorld, RTDS, PSS/E, Aspen OneLiner, ETAP, EMTP-RV, and
    SKM Power Tools.
    Experience with low voltage (
    Capable of effectively working in secured areas, handling and storing and processing classified information, using combination locks, extensive range of passwords and
    combinations, and various biometric devices.
    Established skills in presentations and written communications for program development support and execution.
    Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to lead technical teams and complete assignments with little or no management oversight.

    PR0- Salary Grade 220 $107,520 - $177,336 OR PR0- Salary Grade 230 $121,212 - $206,232
