    Description

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    The Custodial Trainer is responsible for the quality training in relation to the methods and equipment associated with all aspects of the District's' Custodial Program.

    Evaluate routine cleaning procedures as set by Custodial Services to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or GED
    Clear and valid Texas driver's license

    Experience:

    Five (5) years custodial experience
    Three (3) years supervisory experience, preferred
    Three (3) years training experience, preferred

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    1. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and train employees on documentation such as safety
    procedures, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
    2. Demonstrated ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
    3. Ability to evaluate and critique employees and to handle any personnel issues
    4. Should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
    5. Basic computer knowledge needed to work in excel, word, and outlook
    6. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred
    7. Capable of speaking to large groups on custodial topics
    8. Should be capable of creating Power Point presentations for training
    9. Ability to operate a District vehicle

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    1. Help develop training program for all custodial employees
    2. Able to help with equipment selection for various custodial tasks
    3. Able to train and demonstrate to new and existing employees the techniques on cleaning all
    surfaces and restrooms
    4. Willing to respond to emergencies on weekends or holidays
    5. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and how to request
    additional supplies for each campus
    6. Able to instruct employees on preventive maintenance for all custodial equipment and how to
    operate all equipment according to established safety procedures
    7. Familiar with the Texas Hazardous Communications Act and able to instruct employees on items
    such as safety, storing, handling, labeling, and application of all chemicals
    8. Maintain professional appearance at all times by wearing appropriate attire to include
    Department issued shirt
    9. Must be familiar with district requirements for infection control policies and must be able to
    instruct the on the information

    10. Regular attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

    Safety
    1. Maintain safety standards in accordance with federal, state, district, and insurance regulations
    and train technicians on proper and safe use of equipment and chemicals
    2. Ensure that established safety procedures are followed including lifting and climbing. Make sure
    that tools and equipment are operated and chemicals handled according to established safety
    procedures
    3. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not
    immediately correctable to supervisor
    4. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities
    5. May function as a lead custodian when necessary.

    Inventory and Equipment
    1. Evaluate and recommend custodial supplies and equipment to be used
    2. Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for custodial equipment Ensure
    that maintenance is completed and equipment is in safe operating condition Recommend replacement of
    existing equipment when necessary
    3. Conduct regular inventory of physical equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records Order
    tools, equipment, and supplies as needed
    4. Communicate budget and inventory needs to immediate supervisor

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of custodians

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard
    cleaning tools and equipment; standard yard maintenance equipment; may use small hand tools and
    power tools; light truck or van

    Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting;
    may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

    Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist
    flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

    Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds
    and over)

    Environment:
    Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent
    exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and
    electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours;
    occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
