    Department Summary

    The Housing Student Support and Community Responsibility team (HSCR) helps to create socially just communities in the residence halls and apartments by facilitating a living and learning environment that is supportive of all residents and staff of all social identity groups. As a unit, we are committed to building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community and seek to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitments. In serving the approximately 12,000 students in undergraduate and graduate residential communities, you will build strong relationships with campus partners and students. HSCR frames their work in restorative practices, prioritizing community responsibility and accountability and striving for inclusive environments where we acknowledge harm and work to repair it within the community.

    Job Summary

    The Program Manager for Housing Support and Community Responsibility (HSCR) provides support and leadership to the development and delivery of a range of proactive programs and services based in a restorative practices framework. This role is essential to the core mission of Michigan Housing to maintain positive, multicultural, and learning-centered communities.

    • This role works in conjunction with the HSCR Director, Associate Director, and Program Managers to provide leadership for case management, and case review.
    • Oversees the day-to-day case management and monitors community conflicts.
    • Serves as the primary professional staff leading the Community Circles program.
    • Supervises the HSCR student staff.

    45% Case Management

    • Primary case manager and administrator of the Housing conduct system to include assigning, updating, and auditing student conduct cases for Case Coordinators.
    • Primary case manager for all reports of student concern for Housing and is responsible for all case triage; case review and student follow-up in collaboration with Area Coordinators/ Assistant
    • Directors and Hall Directors.
    • Serve as a Case Coordinator by adjudicating conduct cases via the HSCR process.

    30% Community Circle Program Administration

    • Conduct oversight of the Community Circle program in which residents and community members are engaged in a conversation about harm and impact of behavior in the residential community including case follow-up and closure.
    • Coordinate ongoing training and staff meetings that update and reinforce the training objectives.
    • Supervise, select, and train, graduate and undergraduate student program assistant staff who facilitate the Community Circle program.
    • Foster an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values.

    25% Training and Departmental Leadership

    • Co-facilitate annual and ongoing training for approximately 400 Residence Education student staff
    • Assist with the ongoing training and development of the 40 Community Center Managers and Hall Directors. May also assist with the training of Residential Programs Leadership Team members.
    • Develop, maintain, and revise departmental training manuals associated with conduct and conflict materials. Prepare periodic and annual reports.
    • Collaborate with The Office of Student Conflict Resolution, Office of the Dean of Students, Wolverine Wellness, and Residence Education about cases as needed.
    • Stay current on trends, best practices, legislation, and federal and state law regulations that affect student conduct and conflict resolution programs.
    • May be asked to assist and respond in departmental or institutional crisis situations.
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Master's degree in Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, Higher Education, Social Work, or a related field.
    • Two years working in a higher education setting with responsibilities related to case management, student conduct, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
    • Previous experience facilitating topics of social justice, diversity and inclusion, and restorative practices.
    • Intermediate level of proficiency in Google collaborative tools and Microsoft Office.
    • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
    • Experience working with Advocate by Symplicity conduct database or a similar conduct database.
    • Working knowledge of the philosophy of restorative justice and its utility in educational settings.
    • Knowledge of Clery reporting, Title IX, FERPA, and other related compliance mandates.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to the values and practice of social justice.
    • Two years of experience (graduate or professional) in student supervision/advising and program leadership experience.

      • Skills in large and small group facilitation.
    • Administrative skills including
      • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
      • Ability to self-direct and prioritize multiple projects using strong organizational skills
      • Experience in program development and implementation
      • Utilizing knowledge of current trends in conduct and conflict resolution

    Working conditions

    • Some work will require evening and weekend availability.
    • Possibility for one (1) day remote work a week.

    Physical requirements

    Most work requires remaining in a stationary position working via a computer and consulting via the telephone.

    • 1-2 Graduate Program Assistants

    This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.
