Job summary
The Patient Care Technician I is responsible for providing safe emotionally supportive and individualized care for patients under the direction of nursing staff and medical providers.The patient care technician performs basic patient care including vital signs blood glucose on adults hygiene positioning toileting linen changes ambulation range of motion nutritional and hydration support collecting lab specimens Foley catheter care assisting with medical procedures promoting a safe patient environment stocking supplies ensuring compliance with HIPAA policies documenting patient care provided communicating information to nursing and medical staff promoting patient safety standards completing efficient purposeful patient rounding admitting transferring discharging patients in information technology systems adhering to EMTALA laws displaying proper etiquette answering telephone assisting Health Unit Coordinator maintaining accurate up-to-date midnight census tasks screening newborns hearing loss identifies those who require further auditory assessment participating departmental association wide informational meetings reviews department association wide policies develops new ones as needed.
