    Summary
    This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until March 4, 2024.

    The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applicants will be January 16, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks.

    Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until position is filled.

    Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the


    Basic Requirements:

    • as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement
    • Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met
    • Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation
    • Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry
    • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
    • Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed
    • (2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant
    • ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients
    • ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

    Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure

    Required:
    ADA - recognized oral surgery training

    Physical Requirements:
    Must be able to perform the duties physically and mentally in a hospital setting under normal and emergent conditions


    • Heavy lifting 45 lbs
    • and over with assistive devices
    • Heavy carrying of 45 lbs
    • and over with assistive devices
    • Reach above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands required
    • Walking or standing up to 6 hours per day
    • Repeat bending up to 2-4 hours per day
    • Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination
    • Near vision correctable and hearing aid permitted.

    Duties "The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) professional staff is seeking a full-time Oral Surgeon to provide quality service in our progressive, innovative health care system for our Veterans hospital population.

    SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

    The successful candidate as an Oral Surgeon would be proficient in all aspects of oral maxillofacial surgery and limited general dentistry procedures.

    Surgery of the entire Maxillofacial Complex include extractions, dental Implants, anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, surgical correction of maxillofacial skeletal deformities, orthognathic surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery, maxillofacial trauma, temporomandibular joint, pathologic conditions, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.

    The Dental Service is comprised of 7 general dentist, 1 prosthodontist, 1 periodontist, 1 endodontist, 14 dental assistants, 2 lab techs, 6 hygienist, 3 medical support assistants, and an Administrative Officer.

    Work Schedule:

    A \"5-4-9\" schedule, includes eight workdays of nine hours each plus one workday of eight hours within the biweekly pay period.

    Example: 1st week: Monday - Thursday 7:30am to 5:00pm; Friday 730am to 4:00pm; 2nd Week: Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:00 pm; Friday off Work schedule of actual days worked and time off can be discussed with your department Supervisor.
