    The Clinical Diet Tech provides nutrition services to patients under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in the clinical setting.

    This position interacts with clinical staff, patients, and family members to collect, analyze, and document patient nutrition information. The Clinical Diet Tech partners with the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to help create and implement appropriate nutrition care plans.

    Job Essentials

    • Collects nutrition screening information. Communicates findings to the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
    • Completes nutrition data gathering and analysis.
    • Performs calorie counts.
    • Documents patient information in the electronic health record as established by protocol.
    • Interacts and problem solves with clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Provides patient and the community with nutrition care and education, under the direction of RDN.
    • Performs various functions in the NICU under the direction of RDN.
    • Participates in department continuous quality improvement projects.
    • Provides exceptional customer service in all customer interactions.
    • Completes business functions as established by department.

    Shift Details


    • Work Schedule: PRN, As needed

    • Shift Details: Starting at 5:30am for 6-8 hour shifts

    • Required: Holiday & weekend coverage on rotation

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Food handler's permit (as required by facility).
    • One year experience in a healthcare setting or one year completion of nutrition-related college level course work.
    • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated sound judgment, organization, and decision-making skills.
    • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, internet and e-mail applications.
    • Demonstrated algebra math skills.
    • Experience transcribing information quickly and accurately.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with nutrient analysis software.
    • Nutrition-related course work
    • Experience with nutrient analysis software

    Physical Requirements:

    • Interact with patients and co-workers requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.
    • Operate food service equipment or computer requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
    • See and read labels, monitors, and documents.
    • Carry, push/pull, and walk while transporting food, supplies, and service equipment.
    • Climb, squat, kneel, and lift to clean equipment and reach and retrieve food and supplies.
    • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
    • Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work at a grill or in a refrigerator and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.
