    The Parks Division is seeking Maintenance Technician candidates that align with the City's

    values. The successful candidate is team-oriented and a leader with passion, vision for parks

    and serving the community through landscape and grounds maintenance. The successful

    candidate will communicate well, be reliable, safety conscious, and possess a strong work ethic.


    • Safely and efficiently operate a variety of equipment, requiring moderate manipulative skill to operate a range of grounds maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, bobcats, backhoes and all other equipment related to grounds maintenance and improvements
    • Perform general repair and maintenance of various parks within the City of Raleigh, including litter pickup, mowing, mulching, leaf removal, pruning, planting and other miscellaneous duties
    • Participate in equipment maintenance including changing and sharpening blades, checking oil, cleaning air filters, greasing, small mower repairs, etc. Greases, oils and performs minor repairs on equipment
    • Prepare and grade terrain, seed and sod lawns, and prep and plant flowerbeds, trees, shrubs and perennials
    • Operate automotive equipment in transporting personnel and equipment to and from work sites or set destinations
    • Inspect assigned equipment for mechanical readiness and safety. Operates moderately complex equipment on a relief, training or occasional basis
    • Assists City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations. This position may be required to perform special tasks during emergency and disaster events

    Education and Experience:
    High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment

    OR


    An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.


    Licensing and Certifications:

    • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with planting new and repairing established lawns using sod, seed mixtures and fertilizers
    • Proficiency in performing tasks related to grounds maintenance
    • Proficiency with a smartphone to use the City work order system and check and respond to emails

    Knowledge of:

    • Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work
    • Basic mathematical concepts
    • Basic filing and record-keeping principles
    • Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices
    • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment
    • Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations

    ADA and Other Requirements:
    Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing,

    walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


    Heavy Work:
    Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently

    and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


    Working Conditions:


    Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
