    General Summary of Position

    The Clinical Technical Specialist serves as knowledge expert and technical consultant for the immunochemistry (IHC) department. In this role you will provide technical information, coordination, and advice to laboratory staff in said area.

    Responsibilities include-
    • Provides technical advice and information in a scientific specialty such as microbiology, clinical chemistry, histology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology. Serves as a knowledge expert and technical consultant in the specialty area Performs laboratory testing in assigned specialty areas as needed.
    • Evaluates and explains abnormal or unusual test results and assists technologists in solving problems. Correlates lab results with pathology and physiologic states to determine validity of data.
    • Researches and develops new techniques, testing methods, and procedures for the laboratory section. Performs and /or reviews method validation procedures and data. Performs data collection, advanced data analysis, and clinical correlations. Performs special projects as assigned.
    • Prepares and revises standardized policies and procedures for the specialty area.
    • Assist Quality Assurance personnel with development of quality assurance programs and implementation of quality plans for the assigned areas. Makes decisions concerning quality control and quality assurance data and initiates corrective actions. Review proficiency testing results and assures that corrective actions are appropriate for survey deficiencies.
    • Participates in the implementation and ongoing development/improvement of information and technical systems.
    • Participates in orientation and training of laboratory staff, students, and residents as required.
    • Assists in assuring that the laboratory is in compliance with all hospital and laboratory accreditation /compliance requirements.
    • Notifies Manager of any issues that arise that may impair the performance of the Lean Workflow procedure, makes suggestions for improvement, and assists in implementation of solution.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (or higher level of education) in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field
    • 1-2 years of progressively more responsible clinical laboratory experience specifically in IHC.
    • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Certification (Required Bachelor's degree holders/ ASCP certification requirement is waived for applicants with a M.D degree or Master's degree or PhD degree but highly preferred.)
