General Summary of PositionAbout MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Transplant/HepatologyIntermediate Care Unit - S42Thenew S42 Pavilion 4 North is a 28-bed unit which has been recognized by theAmerican Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award forExcellence through 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutelyill adults that are waiting for or have recently received a solid organtransplant (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone otherhepatobiliary surgeries (TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown isone of only six centers in the United States that perform intestinaltransplants and averages over 100 liver transplants per year. At MedStarGeorgetown we also perform kidney and pancreas transplants and serve patientsregionally, nationally, and internationally. Additional medical diagnosesinclude end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, hepatitis, chestpain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, and GI bleeds. All beds are equipped toprovide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry bedside monitoring, and nursesare essential in managing high-risk medications and performing in-depthdischarge teaching. Nurses work with the interdisciplinary team - includingphysicians, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners - to deliver intense pre- andpost-surgical care that is focused on infection prevention and patient education.The nursing team is a highly educated and motivated group of professionals thatparticipate in collaborative governance, achieves certifications, and drivespositive patient outcomes.
Benefits:
Professional care provider who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program preferred. Associates degree from an accredited School of nursing required. BSN enrollment required within 6 months of start date and completion within 3 years.
Experience: 1 year of RN experience required.
License/Certifications: DC Registered Nurse License required; CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic math skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills required.
