    Job Summary/Basic Functions

    Resident Assistants (RAs) are assigned to individual floors or communities and are members of the Residence Life staff. RAs facilitate student integration to the campus community, guide students as they make meaning of their collegiate experience, and help all students become the best versions of themselves. RAs are student leaders that wish to make a positive impact on the university campus. The RAs assist is resolving student conflicts to maintain positive living environments and refer students to appropriate campus resources.

    RAs assist with maintaining safety and security in the halls by enforcing policy, conducting walkthroughs of the building, and responding to calls. Resident Advisors are expected to show a strong understanding of Eastern Kentucky University residence hall structure, policies, and procedures. Ideally, RAs should have the following aptitudes: to communicate well in a group and individual situations; to establish a connection with a wide variety of students; to implement experiences to meet particular goals, and to quickly evaluate crises and respond properly.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Have a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA and be a full-time EKU student (enrolled in at least 12- credit hours).
    Must be in good judicial standing with the University.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experiencing living on a college campus
    Leadership experience

    Job Duties:

  • Utilize residential curriculum strategies to engage residents, foster learning, and create community within their assigned residential community - (Essential)
  • Be visible, available, and accessible to residents in assigned community. - (Essential)
  • Demonstrate actions and language that is supportive and inclusive to all members of the residence hall community. - (Essential)
  • Address resident and floor conflicts fairly and according to Housing & Residence Life policies - (Essential)
  • Participate in hall opening and closing periods and complete associated tasks as assigned by supervisor - (Essential)
  • Establish effective and professional lines of communication with residents, Housing & Residence Life staff, and other members of the community - (Essential)
  • Address safety and/or policy violations fairly and according to Housing & Residence Life policies - (Essential)
  • Participate in scheduled duty nights and complete assigned duty tasks, such as rounds, as outlined by supervisor and Housing & Residence Life policies - (Essential)
  • Provide direction and information to students during emergency situations such as fire alarms, weather emergencies, etc - (Essential)
  • Communicate and collaborate with public safety officials regarding any crisis or emergency situations - (Essential)
  • Submit any administrative paperwork or communication accurately and timely - (Essential)
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for all students and guests. - (Essential)
  • Maintain appropriate use and full control of keys, equipment, and supplies - (Essential)
