    Position Summary

    This recruitment will be used to fill approximately 20 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technician positions within University Information & Technology Service Desk at Oregon State University (OSU). Prospective applicants will be contacted via e-mail on or after 4/19/24. UITSD is a diverse organization made up of 80+ student employees and 8 full-time staff of varying backgrounds working in several functional areas. Service Desk student technicians are the first line of technical support to the OSU community.

  • Help OSU community members with their technology needs via phone, email or in-person
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment
  • Research and troubleshoot technology issues and questions
  • Configure and repair computers
  • Install software
  • Document customer requests
  • Write documentation
  • Help with cleaning and maintenance of work spaces
  • Help train other technicians
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications
  • Able to work at least 10 hours/week
  • Must have at least one full year left of school before graduating (i.e, must not graduate or finish program before the end of Spring term 2025).

  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Ability to attend work regularly and on-time
  • Good problem-solving skills & decision-making ability
  • Basic computer skills
  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Fluency in a second language is appreciated but not required.
