    Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDVCH) and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine seek a full-time Newborn Hospitalist to join our team in Zeeland and Ludington, MI

    Applicants should demonstrate a record of clinical excellence in newborn medicine, skill in delivery room management and neonatal resuscitation, and collaborative approach to working with the multidisciplinary team in Women's and Infant Services. NICU support is offered through telemedicine technology and a well-established regional neonatal transport team at HDVCH. This is a shared position between Zeeland (primary site with appropriately 70% of shifts) and Ludington. The successful Newborn Hospitalist will join the current team of 3 physicians and 2 APPs at Zeeland Hospital and 3 APPs at Ludington Hospital as well as the wider network of providers working in the Corewell West Regional Nurseries.

    Position details:

    • Manage well newborns in the Level 1 nursery
    • Attend all high-risk deliveries and lead delivery room resuscitation
    • Stabilize infants requiring higher level of care and initiate transport to receiving team
    • 24-hour shifts with out of house call within 30 minutes of the hospital
    • Rotating weekend coverage (1 in 4)
    • Collaborate on quality improvement, patient safety, and educational initiatives within the hospital system
    • Provide oversight of APPs
    • Academic appointment with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine; academic rank will be commensurate with experience

    Candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible in Pediatrics. We will support successful candidates in obtaining circumcision credentialing and maintaining NRP certification.

    Zeeland Hospital

    Zeeland Community Hospital has Level 1 Nursery with over 700 deliveries per year. Family Birth Center offers private birthing suites, and dedicated nurses skilled in all aspects of labor, delivery, recovery, and mother-baby care. By delivering safe, high-quality care, Zeeland Hospital's Family Birth Center was listed among the top 100 US Birthing Centers in 2023. The center also holds Baby-Friendly USA Designation. Our close connection with Helen DeVos Children's Hospital helps physicians provide specialized infant care, if needed.

    Ludington Hospital

    Ludington Community Hospital with its newly renovated Family Birthing Center delivers just under 300 newborn infants per year while providing safe, compassionate care for the entire family .

    In 2021, the team received a gold level designation from the Michigan Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health (MI AIM) for steps to improve health outcomes. In 2023, the hospital was named among the top birthing hospitals in the US News and World Report. The hospital combines close community ties with strategic alliance with the health care experts at HDVCH.

    Helen DeVos Children's Hospital

    HDVCH is a 234-bed tertiary care referral center with approximately 11,000 pediatric admissions per year, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There are over 110,000 ambulatory visits, as well as over 55,000 children are seen in the Pediatric Emergency Department (Level 1 Trauma rated) each year. We are home to a large pediatrics residency program and 7 pediatric fellowship programs. Our faculty are heavily involved with teaching medical students, residents, and fellows both at the bedside and in the classroom.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Education - Medical Degree (MD or DO)

    License - Current (MD or DO) the state of Michigan.

    License - Current State of Michigan and Federal Narcotics Licenses.
