    In support of the department culture of constant improvement, we want your ideas for improvements to our current processes where efficiencies can be gained, or control enhanced.

    Manage accounts payable, including ensuring appropriate general ledger recognition, adherence to Navy Mutual policies (verification, appropriate approvals, etc.), and payment.

    Accounts payable management also includes training staff accountant(s), reviewing their work, identifying areas for process improvements and serving as liaison with the software vendor for upgrades and future configuration changes.

    Manage the monthly close process, ensuring that tasks are completed on time, and that proper review has occurred for each item.

    Responsibility for the monthly close also involves providing timely progress reports to management and communicating any risks to the timeline promptly to management.

    Responsible for reporting on monthly operating expenses, including obtaining explanations from various departments for budget-to-actual variances and verifying correct accounting treatment has been applied.

    Presentation of results to the department Director and CFO will occur monthly.
    Oversee maintenance of subsidiary ledgers and assist in the reconciliation of monthly subsidiary account balances (ex. member loans, payroll-related accounts, etc.).

    Assist in the annual budgeting process, including but not limited to, conducting inquiries with department leaders, obtaining supporting documentation, and ensuring files are organized in accordance with prescribed methodology.

    Responsible for mentoring new staff accountant(s) and for communicating training plan for staff accountants to management, including assignment of trainer for different functions across the department and for execution of training plan for new staff.

    Assist leadership team with annual financial statement audit, 401k audit, and pension plan audit, to include ongoing maintenance of trial balances for the 401k and Pension Plans.

    Reconcile and record investment-related activity in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles.
    Assist in preparing and revising Association-wide process control documents, and reporting changes, as they arise to management.
    Other duties as assigned.
    What do you bring to the table?
    Bachelor's degree in accounting and minimum of 3 years of professional accounting experience.
    Active CPA license and/or actively working towards obtaining CPA license
    Must have a solid knowledge of MS Office applications, including Excel and Word.
    Experience working with and a strong understanding of a general ledger and chart of accounts.
    Have a basic understanding of different types of investments and their cash flows.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and multi-task, as well as be a team player.

    This person will adapt well under pressure, be self-motivated and driven to go the extra mile to ensure that Navy Mutual's goals are achieved while delivering exceptional work quality and be open to changes to increase efficiency and best practices.

    Experience in statutory accounting and with Microsoft Dynamics preferred.
    Experience conducting accounting research and interpreting findings.
    Effective written and verbal communication skil
