Description
Congregation Kol Haverim, a small, warm, and inclusive Reform Jewish congregation in Glastonbury, Connecticut is seeking a part-time Director of Education for our growing religious school to fulfill the following duties:Recruit, hire, and evaluate the teaching staff, following budgetary guidelines, making use of existing job descriptions.
Observe teachers with their classes and meet one-on-one with individual teachers to provide feedback and support.
Engage with discretion in coaching volunteers/employees and understand the delicate dynamics of working with skilled amateurs and second-job professionals.
Address issues of inclusion and work with parents to create education plans.
Roughly 20 hours a week, year-round, minus holidays and four weeks of PTO, and is an exempt (salaried) employee.
In office hours are 10/week during the school year, the remainder may be done remotely.
$35,000-$45,000 per year (commensurate with experience), paid twice a month year-round, starting July 1.
The team:
the full-time Rabbi, full-time Administrator, a dozen part-time teachers and resource specialists, a handful of tutors and peer tutors and about ten student interns (madrichim).
Qualifications:
Classroom teaching experience and demonstrated competence in management required.
Preference for candidates with a background in a Jewish professional role, or a URJ camp leadership role, or advanced degree work in education or Jewish Studies, or direct experience in religious school education.
Hebrew reading/decoding skills are helpful, but not necessary, as the Rabbi is available to assess Hebrew teachers' competency. Must be willing to give wholehearted support of Reform positions on intermarriage and LGBTQIA+ issues.Share this job
