Plastics Engineer

Job Summary: Responsibilities include part design and development, materials selection and quotation of plastic parts, injection molding tooling, manufacturing control and quality plans. Must interact professionally with customers at a high level.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design plastics or injection-mold fabrication processes.
• Create and improve injection-mold machinery processes.
• Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
• Analyze manufacturing data and suggest improvements.
• Analyze production capabilities of manufacturing machinery lines.
• Ensure quality output of molded components.
• Develop and design engineered plastic parts, insert molding of parts and assemblies.
• Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal resources.
• Establish the parameters for an optimal molding environment.
• Design necessary secondary operation components.
• Analyze quality control plans for proper implementation.
• Work with other team members and vendors.
• Analyze Moldflow data as well as finite element analysis, stress/fatigue analysis.
• Assist in mold design of both hot/cold runner molds.
• Develop 3D solid part designs (SolidWorks knowledge preferred).
• Moldflow mold-filling simulations knowledge.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification: B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Polymer, or Plastics Engineering or related field.

Experience Required

• Must have 3–5 years' experience working with new customers or existing customers on projects involving injection molding, product design, quoting, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge and application of polymer material properties, plastic injection molding, surface treatment and functionalization, heat transfer, and related topics.
