Characteristics of the Position
General Overview
The Information Security Investigator role reports to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) within the Cook County Sheriff's TechOps Bureau. This role is responsible for assisting the Sheriff CISO with physical/digital security, training, and disaster recovery procedures for the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
The Information Security Investigator will assist in the administration of the organizational information security program and function, including strategy, tactics, standards, and systems. In this capacity the Information Security Investigator will help enforce regulatory requirements and use compliance-based processes and analytics to ensure the protection and confidentiality of data and other information assets across the agency. This position requires strong knowledge in the area of risk assessment, data and system security, security implementation and changing the culture of the institution through training and education.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Work closely with all functional areas throughout the Sheriff's Office to ensure the goals of the Sheriff, Undersheriff and Chief of Staff are realized.
Assist with enforcing security initiatives and standards.
Support with enforcing network access and monitoring policies.
Assist with the planning and implementation of a disaster recovery program.
Assist and implementation of cyber security policies.
Support the development, testing and maintenance of business continuity plans for IT systems and customer operations; direct IT system recovery activities in the event of disaster; participate in annual plan testing.
Assist with emergency procedures and incident responses around Business Continuation.
Maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and other related government agencies.
Assist with safeguarding of intellectual property and computer systems.
Ensure security systems are maintained, monitored, and updated.
Investigate security incidences and breaches.
Assist with activities to create information security awareness throughout the Sheriff's Office.
Support the Application Development team to enforce coding and testing standards to ensure the highest level of security.
Assists the Infrastructure team to enforce configuration standards to ensure the highest security for servers, storage, and network devices.
Assist with regular audits of internal security policies and procedures including software licensing.
Assist with risk management assessments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work with executive leadership.
Familiarity of cyber security best practices and principles.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Familiarity of Information Security standards and best practices.
Familiarity of various security standards (CIJS, HIPPA, NIST, etc.).
Ability to deliver results while working through others and motivate a team culture that is respectful and supports the Sheriff's office values of excellence and integrity.
Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
Ability to create and deliver presentations.
Ability to create security guideline documents.
Familiarity of disaster recovery, standards, and best practices.
Intermediate proficiency level with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, and the ability to operate other standard office equipment, including telephones, calculators, copiers, FAX machines, etc. is required.
Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands; establish and maintain cooperative working.
Ability to travel to work assignments by providing own means of transportation.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) test certificate.
Possession of a at least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university.
Experience with incident response procedures.
Required to be capable to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons, or midnights; must be capable of working holidays and weekends; must be able to work unplanned assignments when needed, as required, including mandatory overtime as required. Participate in on-call remote response assistance schedule every 4th week.
Preferred Qualifications
Information Security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional Certification (CISSP) or Certified Information Security Manager Certification (CISM).
Strong experience in operating system and application security hardening and best practices.
Experience with penetration testing of virtual applications and systems.

Holidays– Thirteen (13) Holidays are granted in each Fiscal Year. Employees who are active at the beginning of the fiscal year (December 1st) also qualify for a floating holiday.
