This position will work out of our De Pere, WI facility. Not a remote role.
Position Summary:
The Package Design Engineer will design packaging for the company's finished sign and architectural elements, ensuring adequate protection of the finished project as it leaves the production facility and arrives at the installation site.
You will be responsible for the entire process of designing custom crates and packaging options to ensure our finished products are protected through delivery.
This position will identify and implement process improvements, SOP's, training, product loading and process standardization across multiple production sites while acting as a leader to the team.
Responsibilities:
Collaborates with staff from design engineering, installation, production teams and shipping departments to optimize functional packaging and crates design options.
Leads the design of the packaging that will include, but not limited to; crating, pallets, cushioning materials, and carrier loading processes while emphasizing ship methods to protect finished sign and architectural element projects.
Creates packaging options that are cost-effective and sustainable.Identifies suitable packaging materials and conducts feasibility studies.
Researches and introduces prototype packaging options using new materials.
Drafts specifications for new packing materials that will adequately protect finished products.
Review Design deliverables as required by each project (Packing line layout, Technical Specification, Technical Recommendation, Fabrication drawing, BOM)
Responsible for delivery of packaging project design on time to support shipping and installation dates.
Prepares and oversees work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.
Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators, shippers) and coordinates with project leaders to obtain approval of drawings/documents for different phases of project.
Performs other duties as required.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or related field preferred.
Five plus years of experience in packaging design preferred.
Logistics and Transportation knowledge helpful
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, at all levels of the organization, internal and external.
Extensive knowledge of packaging material and design applications
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work within tight deadlines.
Adaptable to the ever-changing custom design requirements.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Proficient with computer-assisted design (CAD) software such as Solidworks or AutoCAD.
