Job summary
The pipeline technician maintains and operates crude oil pipelines pump stations and all of the associated equipment such as pumps motor operated valves pressure switches electric motors transmitters vibration switches electronic controls and pressure regulators. The pipeline technician modifies repairs or overhauls electronic and electrical equipment and controls. Applies knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions applies skills in restoring equipment to operation.Troubleshoot problems with control systems complex equipment associated with crude oil operations run conduit pull wire change motors maintain lighting systems basic motor controls maintain modify troubleshoot Distributive Control Systems DCS Programmable Logic Controllers PLC maximize use control technology minimize installation operating costs maintain advanced monitoring devices gas flame fire detectors vibration temperature monitors operate custody transfer measurement facilities perform product quality control tests monitor crude oil receipt delivery activities appropriate pipelines tankage locate pipelines needed oversee excavations line crossings launch receive cleaning pigs assist launch receiving smart pigs install pipeline markers do routine inspections ROW maintain corrosion control equipment attend participate damage prevention meetings interface various landowners corporate field personnel.
Qualifications high school diploma G.E.D equivalent required VoTech certificate Associates degree related work experience preferred previous experience industry related maintenance repair standards preferred Journeyman electrical designation highly preferred ability read understand written safety procedures work procedures blue prints PIDs work permits technical instruction manuals thorough knowledge electrical codes familiarity AC voltage three phase single phase 24 VDC minimum years electrical instrumentation experience energy related industry preferably general design operation crude oil pipeline computer skills spreadsheet word processing applications valid driver's license acceptable driving record stable work history energy industry previous experience operation maintenance construction crude oil pipeline facility tank farm facilities strong commitment personal job safety demonstrate mechanical aptitude dexterity tools special safety equipment lift put emergency breathing apparatus protective equip other job duties required.
