Sr. Scientist/Principal Scientist Protein Biochemist
A stealth mode Third Rock Ventures start up is seeking a dynamic and motivated Biochemist/Biophysicist with significant experience in Drug Discovery to become an integral part of the Discovery Biologics group. The successful candidate will spearhead the development and execution of a diverse range of biochemical and biophysical assays, crucial in advancing the companys Discovery pipeline. We are looking for an individual with outstanding communication and collaboration abilities, who excels in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams. Additionally, experience in managing direct reports and coordinating with external CROs is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to the overall scientific strategy and build out of the Discovery Biologics group
Design and execute a wide range of biochemical and biophysical assays for screening and characterizing protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions
Conduct stability and developability studies on biologics to inform lead candidate selection
Utilize structural, sequence, and computational tools to design protein constructs
Skillfully label and characterize protein reagents using biotin/fluorophores
Oversee external research at CROs, managing activities, assay development, and facilitating seamless data and reagent transfers internally
Proactively assess and integrate new screening technologies into the drug discovery process
Proficiently express and purify antibodies and novel biologics utilizing standard techniques
Develop and execute project plans, coordinating workflows and logistics to achieve project milestones
Effectively present research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences
Candidate Requirements:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or related field or B.Sc./M.Sc. with 2+ years of relevant experience in the Biotech Industry.
Essential expertise in SPR (BIAcore) and proficiency in utilizing other biophysical techniques (BLI, ITC, FP, DLS) for characterizing protein-protein interactions
Proficiency in structural biology and computational tools to aid in designing of protein constructs
Strong grasp of biochemical methods for protein purification, including affinity, IEX, SEC, HIC, and MMC
Embraces new challenges and thrives in a dynamic, start-up environment
Demonstrates a strong work ethic and high motivation
Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team to meet deadlines and contribute to strategic company objectives
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
