    Description
    Job Summary :
    Duties include patient registration, Phlebotomy and scheduling services for OP Laboratory, & Coagulation Clinic patients.

    Lab clinical dutiesinclude performingvenipuncture and capillary blood collections; procedures for throat, nasal and breath specimen collections, administration of test prep solutions & other various clinical duties.

    Performs online test directory searches to determine specimen collection & handling requirements for infrequent/misc tests. Enters physician orders and ICD-10 codes (CPOE). Completes medical necessity check, contacts provider for non-covered services, and/or completes ABN according to Medicare's guidelines.
    Completes patient registration, obtains and enters billing information. Initiates electronic insurance inquiry, reviews and verifies plan, policy/group number and determines primary payer. Completes Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaires & complies with MSPQ policy and accuracy guidelines.
    Obtains consent for treatment; scans and indexes consents, insurance cards, physician orders & documents in the patient's electronic record. Reviews work queues daily and corrects registration, insurance and MSPQ errors prior to shift-end.
    Schedules patient's appointments. Enters charges for routine venipuncture & Coagulation office visits. Requires the ability to multi-task, maintain a positive attitude and promote teamwork in a high stress work environment.

    Qualifications :
    High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of structured phlebotomy or medical assisting program that includes clinical rotation or certification in Phlebotomy required. Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience preferred. Six months experience in patient registration, insurance, accounts or other business office duties is preferred. Excellent communication & decision making skills, ability to multi-task & follow registration practices & guidelines. Considerable computer knowledge with fast, accurate data entry skills. Promotes teamwork, maintains a positive attitude in a fast paced, high stress work environment. Considerable knowledge of insurance, Medicare & Medicaid preferred. Requires proficient phlebotomy skills & thorough knowledge of blood collection procedures for all patient ages.
