    The AVP requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide, and will work with various business segments (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, Pharmacy) to identify and execute on research topics relevant to the business and to Humana's mission and brand.

    The leader will be accountable for developing and strengthening a culture of curiosity, collaboration, customer-service and scientific excellence within Humana, and for leadership and mentorship of other leaders and research associates with a focus on strengthening skills and ensuring opportunities for professional growth.

    Responsibilities
    Seeking an experienced health services researcher with a strong record of publications to lead Humana Healthcare Research (HHR).

    The mission of HHR is to produce high-quality, actionable evidence and rigorous, peer-reviewed research to improve health outcomes, guide Humana's strategy, and advance the body of knowledge for the scientific community and society at large.

    Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, internal pharmacy comparative effectiveness research, policy, payment and care delivery and health equity and the impact of social determinants of health on health outcomes.

    HHR also maintains external partnerships with industry, government, academia and others to produce research important to internal and external stakeholders.

    Responsibilities
    The AVP will manage a team of over 35 researchers and analysts, most with Masters or Ph.
    D.

    level training, and will be responsible for managing deep relationships across Humana to serve as a trusted partner in learning and disseminating findings.

    Success will be defined by the quality of published research as well as the ability to meaningfully influence the quality of business decisions.


    HHR has several key bodies of work:
    Health Services and Policy - studies of new payment models and policy innovations.

    As a leading, scaled, value-based purchaser, real-world evaluations of novel models and unique designs can lead to more rapid, evidence-based innovation within Humana and dissemination across the industry.

    This Division also conducts policy studies to influence CMS regulations based on real-world evidence.

    Care Delivery - studies of clinical innovations in the care in the home, senior-focused primary care, integrated care management, behavioral health, digital health, pharmacy, and social determinants of health domains.

    Humana is innovating in each area, and the internal research team assists in guiding the design of interventions, rapid-cycle learning, and rigorous evaluations of interventions.

    Pharmacy - This team generates health economics and outcomes research evidence in diverse disease states and therapeutic areas to support various internal pharmacy business units such as clinical formulary strategy, specialty strategy, pipeline and trend, patient safety & quality, clinical programs and pharmaceutical manufacturer relations.

    External Collaborations -The External Research team develops and maintains numerous partnerships with the federal government, the private sector, and academic institutions to develop research that leverages unique data and collaborative relationships that meaningfully contribute to the scientific literature.

    Required Qualifications
    MD or PhD with training in health services research
    A strong reputation in health services research, with a meaningful publication record in top-tier journals

    Experience in successfully leading a team of researchers and analysts, with experience leading other leaders and serving as a mentor to early and mid-career scientists.

    Exemplary communicator (written and verbal)
    Comfort working in a large, matrixed organization, one where relationships must be built to create deep partnerships with diverse business segments
    Experience developing financial forecasts, meeting budgetary targets while carefully balancing resource planning
    Experience developing a strategic plan, research agenda, and publication plan aligned with organizational priorities
