RESPONSIBLEFOR:


Independently performs laboratoryprocedures for which the technologist has been trained anddemonstrated competency.

Independently performs laboratory testingon patients of all ages using professional knowledge of laboratoryprocedures, executing, interpreting and/or analyzing, in anaccurate and timelymanner.

Qualifications:

MINIMUMEDUCATION REQUIRED:

High school diploma orequivalent required plus a sufficient number of college and/ortechnical school courses and clinical training to satisfy therequirements for testing and certification as a medicaltechnologist by an approved certifyingagency.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:


None required beyondeducation/training requirement.

MINIMUMLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BYLAW:

Certification as a medical technologist ormedical laboratory scientist by the American Society of ClinicalPathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB(American Association of Bioanalysts) according to thequalifications through the State of Georgia Department of CommunityHealth, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.

Aperson who recently moved into the state of Georgia or recentlycompleted the academic and training/experience requirements may betemporarily classified as technologists or technicians for eighteen(18) months only to afford the person an opportunity tosuccessfully complete an approved qualifying examination.

AABprovisional certification notaccepted.

ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelors Degree in clinicallaboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in alife / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology,etc.) preferred. One year of supervised clinical experience as amedical technologist in a clinical preferred. Should be competentin areas of the laboratory being covered, including chemistry,hematology, coagulation, blood bank, microbiologypreferred.
