    Description

    A career in law enforcement with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is an exceptional opportunity for those with Merchant Mariner Credentials.

    As a Marine Interdiction Agent, you will perform marine-based law enforcement operations to detect, prevent, interdict, and apprehend terrorists, terrorist weapons, and other contraband and persons from illegally entering or attacking the United States.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Monitor behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities.
    • Interpret radar data to calculate appropriate intercept while tracking vessels and people to a successful interdiction.
    • Search persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons incidental to detention or arrest.
    • Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence.

    Requirements:

    • Must have a qualifying Merchant Mariner Credential.
    • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as applying advanced skills in controlling/commanding law enforcement scenes, conducting investigative inquiries, utilizing cameras and electronic surveillance equipment, and writing comprehensive reports.

    Education Substitution:

    • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M.

    Combining Experience and Education:

    • A combination of successfully completed post-bachelors' education and experience.

    Additional Requirements:

    • U.S. Citizenship.
    • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
    • Age requirement: must be referred for selection before reaching their 40th birthday.
