    Job Description

    Job Description

Are you a skilled Software Test professional with a proven track record testing Database and ETL code? Look no further – you could be the ideal candidate for us

At the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), we provide the factual foundation for data-driven health care interventions. CHIA is an independent state agency whose work is trusted by policymakers, health care leaders, and researchers alike to craft policies that improve the quality and equity of care, while keeping costs affordable for Massachusetts families.

We serve as stewards of Massachusetts health data, employing multifaceted datasets and cutting-edge analytics to promote transparency in our health care system. By joining CHIA, you'll help turn health care data into insight by developing compelling content and rollout campaigns that play a pivotal role in evidence-based decision-making.

We are looking to hire a skilled Database/ETL Test Engineer to work alongside our other talented test engineers and developers within CHIA's Data Operations and Technology (DOT) group. The testers' duties will include performing key testing functions in the data product release process. In this role you will collaborate with your colleagues in DOT to design and create manual and automated tests to validate data sources, extraction of data, the application of transformation logic, and loading data into target tables in an Azure cloud database.

The Database/ETL Tester is a key member of CHIA's software development organization and our DOT team reporting to the Manager of Software Test. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Create, design, and execute test plans, test harnesses and test cases.
    • Test ETL Datawarehouse components.
    • Execute backend data-driven tests.
    • Create strategies and test cases for data applications.
    • Identify issues pertaining to submissions or ETL transactions during the creation of data warehouses, discuss with DBA's, assist with remediation strategies, and timelines for correction.
    • Execute formal test plans to ensure the delivery of data related projects.
    • Define and track quality assurance metrics such as defects, defect counts, test results and test status.
    • Document all problems and assist in their resolution.

Here are the important qualifications we are looking for:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
    • Seasoned SQL programmer with experience querying LARGE volumes (terabytes) of health data, preferably medical claims, dental claims, pharmacy claims, and eligibility data.
    • Experience working with large scale Database Systems like SQL Server, PostGresSQL, Snowflake, etc., and ETL Tools like Talend Data Fabric and IBM DataStage.
    • Experience with Agile Software Development & Testing methods for deployment in cloud environments, preferably MS Azure.
    • Five or more years of relevant experience testing backend applications, focusing on complex SQL queries.
    • Experience analyzing ETL mapping documents to design test plans for validating ETL code.
    • Be able to create SQL scripts based on ETL mapping documents.
    • Create and execute strategies and test cases for applications that use ETL components.
    • Expertise in Database testing with excellent SQL skills.
    • Data warehouse testing experience.
    • Hands on experience in relational databases and database architecture.
    • Hands on experience interpreting and understanding data models and ER diagrams.
    • Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office, particularly Word & Excel. Familiarity with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI will be an advantage but is not required.

    Other things to know:

    • We foster a flexible, collaborative environment, offering a hybrid model that balances in-person and remote work. Our hybrid approach allows you to work alongside your colleagues in our vibrant Boston office at 501 Boylston Street for at least two designated days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on others.
    • We value the talent and expertise you bring to the table, so we offer a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $100,000 for this position.

    Total Compensation:
