    As an Applications Engineer at Valmet, you are building strong relationships with our customers.

    Providing recommendations for technical solutions to help our customers improve fiber and finished product quality, productivity and to reduce their costs and better meet the needs of their customers.

    What You'll Need

    If you are a self-starter with high energy to drive improvement forward, this position may be right for you.

    An effective communicator with data analysis skills, preferably in excel, will allow the right candidate to be successful in this position.

    The Applications Engineer will be trouble shooting issues for our customers, auditing the customers process, modeling data, developing recommnedations, and selling these recommendations through strong communication and presentation skills.

    The Applications Engineer has two major roles:


    Reactive – Working closely with customers and the sales force through issues of competitive threats, delivering a higher level of technical support in an emergency: providing complete systems analysis – being an advanced resource, when a cursory approach is not providing insights necessary to solve problems quickly.


    Proactive – Look at the customer base, determining where the company's best products are running and where they are not.

    Work with the Sales Managers and Sales to develop action plans for new product development, technical support, etc. in order to advance coverage of products and service throughout the customer base.

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Technical degree is required. Preferably in Paper Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
    Experience in the Pulp & Paper Mill, Mechanical Pulp Mill and/or Fiberboard Plant (includes Co-Op and Internships
    Ability to travel between 40% to 60% of the time
