    Summary



    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.



    Duties


    This announcement reflects a closing date of July 19, 2024. We will accept application packets on an on-going basis; however, qualified applicants will be referred to the selecting official at two-week intervals. The first referral will be two weeks from the opening date of the announcement. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.

    As Staff Physiatrist for general rehabilitation clinic, specialty clinics such as EMG, acupuncture, polytrauma, wheelchair/seating, tele-rehab, amputee, CLC and other clinical responsibilities as assigned by Assistant Chief, reports to the Assistant Chief of PM&R. In partnership with the Assistant Chief/Chief of PM&R and PM&R Administrative Officer, oversees general and specialty rehab clinics, provides clinical oversight for PM&R therapy sections as needed, under the oversight of the Assistant Chief of the PM&R Service, to provide a continuum of rehabilitation services for the DC VAMC. This position requires that the Staff Physiatrist:

    • Prescribe, coordinate, monitor and maintain working knowledge of rehabilitation medicine including the services and activities of therapy clinicians including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Recreational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, Social Work, Psychology and Rehabilitation Nursing Care.
    • Provides clinical oversight as needed for rehabilitation medicine personnel in the PM&R

      and CLC services.
    • Integrates VA core values and mission into the rehabilitation process.
    • Collaborates with the Assistant Chief of PM&R in the execution and optimization of PM&R programs in the areas of: patient access, resource utilization, accomplishment of local, VISN and national goals, safety, and outcomes.
    • Prescribes therapeutic exercise programs, and prescribe orthotic and prosthetic devices, and engage in the full scope of their clinical privileges as necessary to optimally and safely serve referred patients as well as other stakeholders.
    • Collaborates with other rehab physicians to ensure proper education of medical students and residents when applicable, and therapy sections as required.
    • Attends regularly scheduled PM&R staff meetings and other clinical and administrative staff meetings as may be required or directed by the Assistant Chief of PM&R.
    • Assists other providers in the clinical evaluation and treatment of patients.
    • Monitors all health care providers under their oversight to avoid adverse events to the patients being treated and to assist with any needed corrective actions when adverse events occur during the treatment of patients.
