    Description

    The Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainers in all aspects of the health care of the intercollegiate student-athletes for the Stevenson University Athletic department.

    Reporting to the Co-Head Athletic Trainers, the Athletic Trainer will assist with organizational and administrative duties as assigned, as well as supervise student workers in the Athletic Training room.

    The Athletic Trainer will also assist in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes at Stevenson University.

    Education/Experience

    Bachelor's degree in athletic training with an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. Two years' experience working with intercollegiate athletics desired.

    Valid driver license with good driving record required; must be insurable.

    Knowledge/Skills/Ability


    • NATA-BOC Certification, eligibility for Maryland State license, CPR, First Aid, and AED certified
    • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and computer use.
    • Proficiency with injury tracking software, and experience administering the SWAY concussion testing application.
    • Knowledge and skills in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred from participation in competitive athletics.
    • Knowledge and ability to manage budgets and inventory for an Athletic Training Department.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
    • Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and guidelines.
    • Ability to travel with teams as needed.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
    Physical Requirements

    Medium Work:

    Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather are kept, as coverage for athletic events (including practice and games) is a necessity for the care of our student-athletes.

    Some travel with teams may be necessary. As there is some lifting (ie., ice chest, water coolers, etc.), as well as some manual labor.

    Essential Functions


    • Work in cooperation with the Co-Head Athletic Trainers in all aspects of the health care of the student-athletes, such as evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by the intercollegiate student-athletes
    • Manage all athletic training room functions in the absence of the Co-Head Athletic Trainers, and Team Physicians
    • Maintain work schedule in the athletic training room in cooperation with and as assigned by the Co-Head Athletic Trainers
    • Attend practices and home athletic events as assigned by the Co-Head Athletic Trainers
    • Administer proper first aid to student-athletes on the field and in the athletic training room
    • Travel as needed with intercollegiate athletic teams.
    • Assist the Co-Head Athletic Trainers in the organizational and administrative duties of the athletic training room.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Medical record keeping
    • Supervision of work-study students and athletic training student interns
    • Assist with inventory
    • Organize pre-participation physicals and screenings for student-athletes
    • Treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes
    • Pre-season preparation and practices
    • Handling of secondary insurance claims
    • Maintenance of all athletic training supplies and equipment
    • Development, implementation, and enforcement of athletic training policies and procedures under the guidance of the Co-Head Athletic Trainers
    • Other duties deemed necessary by the Co-Head Athletic Trainers
