    Summary



    The LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Registered Nurse assigned to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) aligned under Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine Services. The PACU Registered Nurse preps the patient for surgery, ensuring all hospital and JCAHO requirements of patient prep are completed prior to entry into operating room.



    Duties


    The PACU nurse is proficient in both the preoperative area and the postoperative area. The preop nurse preps the patient for surgery, ensuring all hospital and JCAHO requirements of patient prep are completed prior to entry into operating room. The postoperative nurse provides care of the post-surgical patient ensuring all discharge criteria are met prior to discharge or transfer to another unit. The preoperative and postoperative nurse report to the nurse manager and work under the guidance of the anesthesia team.

    Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care
    • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components
    • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction
    • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
    • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
    • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs
