    Position Overview
    Primary Purpose of Position

    The Benefits Manager is responsible for directing the University's benefit health, and wellness program and services, providing leadership and the day-to day supervision of a team of benefits professionals, overseeing benefits training and orientation, developing and implementing communication plans to effectively disseminate benefits information to the University community, and managing administrative aspects of the Benefits unit including website updates, policies and procedures, reporting and analysis, and process improvement.

    The Manager ensures that programs and services are cost-effective, competitive, and adhering to current regulations and support the university's strategic objectives.

    This position will serve as the benefits lead for governing bodies, vendors, and university teams.

    The Benefits Manager administers these programs with an emphasis on outstanding customer service, efficiency, and effectiveness and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to facilitate program administration.

    The position strategizes and leads the Benefits unit to conduct seminars and consultations that provide education to faculty and staff on benefits, wellness disability, retirement and federal statutes and state regulations that pertain to benefits administration.

    Primary Function of Organizational Unit

    North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a progressive university offering fully accredited academic programs to over 13,000 students.

    The Division of Human Resources provides comprehensive programs and services to support, attract and retain high-performing faculty and staff at the University, as well as, to develop an interdisciplinary workforce to effectively serve the University in support of its mission.


    The Benefits unit is responsible for the management, planning, and operational support for all benefits programs offered by the University, including retirement, leave administration and workers' compensation.

    The unit coordinates Open Enrollment, Orientation, and Exit Interviews.

    The Benefits team collaborates on developing and implementing benefits processes for the University to ensure compliance with NCA&T, UNC System Office, Office of State Human Resources, State of NC, and federal statutes, policies and procedures for benefit administration.

    Administer the Employee Assistance Program, Employee Emergency Loan Program, Tuition Reimbursement Plan Employee Wellness Program including an Annual Benefits Fair.

    Minimum Requirements

    Masters degree and five or more years of of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience OR Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of supervisory experience and 5 or more years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience.

    All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

    Knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee benefits (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADAAA, 409A, and other Federal and State mandated requirements including reporting and disclosures).

    Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

    Master's Degree in business, human resources, or related field with 6-10 years of human resources administration experience focused in benefits or benefits administration that includes at least five years of supervisory responsibility.

    Experience with Excel, HRIS systems, Banner or similar enterprise-wide system. Experience in higher education or public government and professional certifications in PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP, or CMS are desirable. Experience managing HR/Benefits technology including process automation.

    Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. Hybrid (Employees are working part-time in the office to perform job tasks that require on-campus engagement, and the remaining time at home)
