    Job Description:


    The Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS) Common Engineering Whole Life Services (WLS) Directorate is made up of multiple specialty engineering disciplines whose main goal is to affect system designs throughout their life cycle to ensure effective operation, reliability, system safety, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

    We have an immediate need for a

    Senior System Safety Engineer

    to support multiple programs in Dallas, TX.


    The Senior System Safety Engineer must be proficient in the following: MIL-STD-882 System Safety Activities, Fault Tree Analysis, Hazard Analyses, System Safety Requirements development and flow-down, Software System Safety, and Range Safety.

    The position also requires a high degree of self-motivation, self-guidance, and ability to effectively interface with other disciplines.


    Required Skills:

    • 5 years of relevant experience in System Safety Engineering (MS/MA or PhD degrees may substitute 2 or 4 years of work experience, respectively)
    • Experience in General for System Safety Engineering practices as derived from MIL-STD-882:

    Practical understanding and application of:
    ◦MIL-STD-1472

    ◦Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering (JSSSEH), AOP-52, or similar

    ◦MIL-HDBK-454B


    • Ability to produce DoD required documentation, such as:◦System Safety Program Plan
    ◦Hazardous Material Management Plan and Report

    ◦Safety Assessment Report

    ◦Hazard database/log


    • Ability to evaluate compliance of design with system safety standards with minimal guidance
    • Developing hazard mitigation techniques
    • Understanding of software development life cycle
    • Ability to prepare for, plan, document, and implement all tasks in a System Safety Program
    • Ability to read and understand software languages, such as Ada and C++.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of engineering, program management, and the customer.
    • Effective public speaking and presentation abilities.
    • Ability to prepare detailed technical safety analysis reports with minimal guidance
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products.
    • An active and in-scope US Secret Security Clearance is required

    Desired Skills:

    System Safety Engineering experience with:
    ◦DO-254 Design Assurance Guidance For Airborne Electronic Hardware

    ◦MIL-STD-516 Air Worthiness Criteria

    ◦DO-178 Software considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification


    • Expertise working with Radar and/or Laser systems
    • Earned Value Management
    • DOORS
    • Proposal experience with writing Basis of Estimates (BOEs)
    Required Education (including Major):


    • B.S. degree in Engineering, Science, or related technical field.193055
