The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking to create an eligibility list of qualified applicants for the position of Captain- Fire Inspector to perform the following duties: performing inspections to ensure that general, commercial and industrial construction and maintenance is in compliance with fire codes and ordinances.

In addition, the position is responsible for public education, permit and license issuance, training of department personnel in the relevant areas of fire prevention, and organizing and coordinating community events, public education programs, and community risk reduction activities.

Applicants must:

be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid Missouri Driver's License, High School diploma or GED equivalent; have four (4) years of service with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department or a similar sized career department, or have worked in a community risk reduction role, or a combination of the aforementioned; possess a Missouri/or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) or Paramedic (EMT-P) license; American Heart Association CPR Instructor; Firefighter I and II (Missouri and/or National 1001 Standard IFSAC and/or Pro Board approved certification); State of Missouri Driver/Operator or equivalent; and Fire Officer 1 or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications include NFA Incident Command Courses; ICC Code Enforcement courses; Life Safety Plans Review; Public Fire & Life Safety Educator; State of Missouri Fire Investigator and Fire Inspector or equivalent; if not already in possession of Fire Investigator or Fire Inspector, the candidate must have the ability to obtain both within 6 months after appointment.

Candidates meeting the qualifications will be invited to participate in the assessment center.

The assessment center consists of pre-fire planning, development of a Community Risk Reduction plan or program, citizen interaction, Home/Business Safety Survey, public presentation, media relations, and an oral interview.

Starting hourly range of $21.40-$24.83 based on an average 40-hour workweek.

The total compensation value for this position is $33.39 hourly/$69453 yearly to $38.06 hourly/$79,167 yearly, which consists of the starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
