    Position Summary:

The Enterprise Data Modeler (EDM) at DTCC consults with product management, information technology, data stewards and other groups to ensure that s/he understands all the details of a line of business in order to design and implement the blueprint of systems that will support the work for that line of business.

In addition, based on the detailed knowledge that the EDM has gained, s/he has to contribute to the Enterprise Logical Data Model (ELDM) by defining repeatable patterns across the enterprise.

Overtime, the EDM is expected to become the subject matter expert (SME) on the topic, current and potential future uses of data, and the quality and interrelationship between core elements of the data repositories and data products.

The EDM must be able to define how the information will be captured, retained and exploited.

This individual will possess a combination of business knowledge, technical skills, and people skills to define and guide the enterprise data strategy.

Being able to identify data quality issues and knowing how to integrate data is a must skillset.

The successful candidate must be able to understand and practice high-level patterns that are common in this field and to provide leadership in data related matters as well as technical solutions that we propose to the application development groups and other IT groups within the enterprise by being conversant with these teams, and cognizant of the future direction of systems.

Furthermore, the EDM must understand how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how current and future systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise.

Since this is an enterprise level position; a lot of emphasis is put on developing standards and patterns that can be used by other projects.

In addition, the candidate must be very fluent in pure logical data modeling.

    Job Duties:
The EDM serves a critical role in the understanding, documentation, analysis, and design of proposed systems.

This role encompasses all aspects of data management; conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling; being involved in end-to end data lifecycle management activities; evaluating and recommending new and emerging data management and storage technologies and standards.

Some of the daily activities include:

Reviewing Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) and/or User Stories (Agile methodology), translating them into viable conceptual and subsequently, logical data constructs that will be captured in data models
Creating data models that conform to existing standards and conventions
Developing mapping documents that demonstrate data lineage
Revising data dictionaries, governance practices, and standards
Profiling existing data by writing SQL scripts in the source systems
Converting Logical Data Models (LDMs) into working Physical Data Models (PDMs), document and maintain lineage between the two artifacts
Interact with different stakeholders and gather information that would help solve the challenges at hand and help achieve the long-term goals of the project

    Minimum Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in data architecture
7 or more years of data modeling experience with demonstrated expertise in the analysis and design of large-sized systems
Thorough knowledge of ERwin Data Modeler (V8 or higher) or a comparable CASE tool
Knowledge of Agile development methodology and concepts

Understanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies, formal systems engineering life cycle (SELC), and systems development life cycle (SDLC).

Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web services, enterprise data management, information security, applications development, and cloud-based architectures
Experience with enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and proficiency in SQL
Experience working as a member of a distributed data architecture team
