    Job Title: Health Assistant

    Credentials: None required for this position.

    Education: High school diploma or GED

    Training or experience required: Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers and or clerical experience preferred. Must be able to complete orientation/training with Health Services Coordinator which includes a wide variety of health services that will need to be administered as needed, in order to perform all services as outlined in Essential Job Functions. There will be additional training to include a variety of medical conditions of students and staff.

    FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

    Essential Job Functions:
    • Greet all students who come to the clinic seeking assistance, determine individual needs and provide care as situations requires.
    • Administer medications, treatments or procedures prescribed by a licensed physician as delegated by the building Principal.
    • Provide first aid care to students with minor injuries, report significant findings to Health Services Coordinator, supervising school nurse and/or Principal.
    • Assist in contacting parents/guardian of ill or injured students.
    • Maintain and update student health records.
    • Maintain confidentiality of information learned in the performance of duties.
    • Assist in school immunization compliance, health screening such as: hearing, vision, vital signs and head lice checks.
    • Maintain sickroom equipment and supplies.
    • After training, be able to perform CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration. Specific training to include care of students with: Diabetes, Asthma, Allergic Reactions and Seizure Disorders. Procedure training to include nebulizer treatments, insulin, glucagons or epi-pen administration, urinary catheterization, gastrostomy or tube feedings or other procedures required by student's health plan.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills and to handle problems and provide information and technical assistance as requested. It requires complying with safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to staff or to students. It requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns for staff. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are critical to the success of the position.Help manage the computerization of school district operations. Provide training and support to district staff in the use of administrative computer systems. Perform such tasks to the ultimate benefit of the educational program. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the solution.
