    Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., one of the oldest and largest full-service general contractor is seeking temporary, Engineering Interns.

    General Purpose of Job:

    Engineering Interns with Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. provides hands-on learning experiences directly related to skills needed in a full-time Construction Engineer career. Interns will have the opportunity to develop and learn key roles and functions in construction engineering. Some responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; reviewing shop drawings, submittals, schedules, take offs, pay requests, contract changes and project documentation.

    Functional Responsibilities for Engineer Interns:

    • Support both administrative and construction activities as assigned by supervisor; review proposals, specifications and drawings, perform material takeoffs, prepare cost estimates
    • Learn to work with subcontractors and communicate with vendors
    • Learn to track cost and materials, schedule equipment and follow safety program
    • Maintain records as required for job progress, costs, material usage etc..
    • Learn and assist with planning and scheduling of job and/or job segments.
    • Identify problems and recommend solutions/alternatives as appropriate.
    • Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements, pricing etc...

    Position Requirements:

    • Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related degree
    • Committed to the construction industry
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
    • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Valid driver's license and transportation preferred

    Skills:

    • Good work ethic- highly motivated, punctual, reliable, productive, cooperative and self-disciplined
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Good attention to detail, ability to recognize discrepancies
    • Ability to work with others as well as independently
    • Able to work in various types of environments typically found on a construction site

    Starting Salary: $18/hr.
