    Job Description

    The pharmacist plays a crucial role in dispensing prescribed medications, transferring prescriptions, and providing drug information to other healthcare professionals. This position requires strong technical skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. It is essential to meet state certifications, have familiarity with standards concepts, practices, and procedures, and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Technical Tasks:
    • Reviews patient prescriptions and profiles to prevent overdoses, incompatibilities, and toxicity, ensuring high-quality pharmacy services and patient care. Accurately processes orders/IV admixtures.
    • Demonstrates understanding of the formulary system and ensures compliance.
    • Documents all clinical interventions in the department-approved tracking system.
    • Supervises and reviews support personnel functions within the pharmacy.
    • Removes out-of-date medication from inventory immediately upon discovery and checks patients on that medication to ensure none will be given.
    • Maintains physical inventory to meet patient demands.
    • Completes assigned daily tasks and assists others when time permits.
    • Available to fill in for staff pharmacists as needed.
    • Critical Thinking:
    • Responsible for clinical use and knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacological effects of drugs and chemicals on the human body.
    • Computes calculations to originate clinical suggestions based on patient parameters, such as age, organ function, and weight.
    • Advises healthcare professionals regarding drug properties and effects, proper administration, stability, and compatibility.
    • Utilizes references and computer programs to accurately dose and understand pharmacokinetics properties and pharmacology of dispensed drugs.
    • Provides in-service education to healthcare professionals and participates in community education activities.
    • Effectively records and reports data, including interventions that improve patient care, adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and cost-effective therapeutic interchanges.
    • Able to assess situations and choose appropriate courses of action.
    • Demonstrates effective communication with different people, considering special needs.
    • Interpersonal Relations:
    • Communicates with physicians, nursing staff, and customers regarding drug availability, side effects, and incompatibilities.
    • Effectively manages support staff and provides direction in their daily responsibilities.
    • Expeditiously resolves communication deficits with healthcare professionals and coworkers.

    Qualifications

    Experience: Retail experience and working knowledge of 340B and Patient Assistance programs.

    Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Ph.D)

    Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in Louisiana
