Job Description
The Department of Applied Social and Political Sciences in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Coppin State University is seeking a tenure-track Associate Professor in Sociology/Social Science beginning August 2024.
The successful candidate will teach social statistics, social research methods, and a substantive area in sociology/social science. The candidate should demonstrate potential for program and department leadership.Additionally, the preferred candidate will have interdisciplinary research and teaching experiences focused on urban communities, and the ability to contribute to the delivery of academic programs in Urban Studies, Nonprofit Leadership, Anthropology, and/or Human Services Administration.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver instruction to courses within the Department.
Coordinate support to students including in the areas of advisement, retention, progression, and graduation of students.
Coordinate delivery of academic programs and unit strategic planning and assessment in accordance with the Department, College, and University mission.
Hiring and evaluation of department personnel, to include faculty and staff along with department budgeting and resources management.Other duties as needed to support the Department and College.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION:
A Doctoral degree in Sociology (Candidates holding doctoral degrees in closely related disciplines and sufficient graduate coursework in Sociology will also be considered)
EXPERIENCE:
A proven successful track record that reflects the detailed duties and responsibilities of the position(s).
Must have at least three (3) years' experience as a senior faculty and program coordinator and have enough experience to be appointed to the Associate Professor status.
Research and publications focused on urban communities.Experience with Course and Learning Management Software (i.e., Blackboard Ultra, PeopleSoft, and Tegrity) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrate Leadership/Academic/Scholarly and Administrative experience.
Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to lead effectively.
Ability to work independently, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to collaborate and manage various aspects of an academic program.
Effective convergence of community engagement and instructional activities.
