- PhD in immunology or related science
- Board certified by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI)
- If applicable, hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois
- Satisfy the personnel requirements of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, College of American Pathologists, and meets the qualification requirement of Sec of Subpart M-Personnel for High Complexity Testing of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA)
- Knowle and ability to use Histotrac, Epic, Epic Beaker laboratory information systems
- Ability to use and understand basic statistical concepts and methods that are commonly utilized in clinical laboratory science
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with individuals at all levels
- Comfort working in high-stress environments
- Provide testing and consultation support to the solid organ transplant programs (kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung, and islet), hematopoietic cell transplant programs, disease association, and transfusion services. Tests offered by the TII Lab include HLA typing by next-generation sequencing, HLA antibody testing (screening and by single antigen beads), and crossmatching.
- Provide education and training in histocompatibility, immunogenetics, and transplantation immunology to residents and fellows. The TII Lab is CLIA-certified and accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and the College of America Pathologists (CAP).
- Write analytical reports and test interpretation.
- Investigate issues concerning test results and results interpretation related to specific patient conditions.
- Evaluate adequacy of method verification to determine the accuracy and precision of the tests.
- Initiate remedial actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Record and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently and ensure compliance with the applicable regulations.
- Take virtual cross match calls and collaborate with transplant and organ sharing programs.
- Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new methodologies and instrumentation and provides continued support for these new procedures after implementation into routine diagnostic practice.
- Assist lab manager and supervisor on completing assigned projects and tasks in a timely manner with little or no supervision.
- Take initiative to offer suggestions on optimizing workflow, bench assignments and other pertinent areas of the department.
- Act as knowledgeable leader to assist laboratory staff and department leaders across UCM laboratories on Transplant Immunology issues.
- Help to resolve technical problems, advanced troubleshooting, make critical decisions and obtain external assistance if necessary.
- Evaluate need for training, education and helps to create educational resources, job aides and training resource material.
- Take initiative to offer suggestions on optimizing workflow, bench assignments and other pertinent areas of the department.
- Ensure quality assessment (QA) and quality control (QC) programs are established and maintained.
- Ensure Monthly review of QC with signature and date indicating that the data have been reviewed.
- Ensure compliance to CLIA, CAP, ASHI and other agencies per requirement
- Ensure preparedness for accreditation inspection from CAP and ASHI and be available during inspection
- Analyze all test and quality control results for errors, inconsistencies and deviations prior to reporting results.
- Establish policies and procedures for monitoring personnel competency in all phases (pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic) of testing to assure the ongoing competency of all individuals who perform testing.
- Review policies and procedures timely and make changes if and as needed.
- Assist in maintaining continual compliance with policies, procedures and record keeping necessary to meet standards of accrediting or regulatory agencies.
- Assist in training and ongoing continuing education of laboratory testing personnel, students, pathology residents, fellows, and others.
- Participate in educational and training activities to acquire new skills, maintain technical relevance and improve proficiency.
- Provide oversight of testing personnel performing moderate and high complexity testing as a technical supervisor under CLIA 88 rules

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine , as a part-time Interim Technical Director of Transplant Immunology Laboratory in the Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratory (TII Lab). Primary duties include directing the TII Lab and writing/signing out HLA test reports. A remote option is available.
The Interim Technical Director of Transplant Immunology Laboratory is responsible for overall technical and clinical operation as well as administration of the laboratory to assure quality patient care services. Primary duties include directing the TII Lab, developing cutting-edge technology, and supporting the rapidly expanding clinical transplant programs. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity.
The TII Lab provides testing and consultation support to the solid organ transplant programs (kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung, and islet), hematopoietic cell transplant programs, disease association, and transfusion services. Tests offered by the TII Lab include HLA typing by next-generation sequencing, HLA antibody testing (screening and by single antigen beads), and crossmatching.
