    Job Description
    The University of Missouri, Columbia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, for the role of Director of Orchestral Activities at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with the potential for a distinguished track record as a conductor and a forward-looking, innovative approach to leading a collegiate orchestral program.

    In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate with our esteemed faculty to prepare musicians and graduate student conductors for fulfilling careers in music education. Key responsibilities will encompass conducting the University of Missouri University Philharmonic Orchestra, delivering instruction in undergraduate and graduate-level courses related to conducting and music literature, and providing guidance and mentorship to Ph.D. and M.M. students. Additionally, the role involves overseeing and supervising graduate teaching assistants.

    The position also carries additional duties, such as active participation in School of Music, University, and professional committees, as well as contributing to the planning and execution of outreach programs designed to engage and enrich our local community. Conductors with demonstrated excellence in creative and scholarly activities such as workshops and clinics, conducting honors orchestras, community or youth music activities, and adjudication are highly encouraged to apply.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Doctorate in Music or Ph.D. in Music Education by time of appointment or equivalent professional experience conducting professional and/or collegiate/university orchestras.

    Candidates will be evaluated on:

    Record of excellence in conducting at the professional and/or collegiate/university level
    Education and/or equivalent professional experience.
    Evidence of innovation in leading an orchestra program.
    Experience teaching and advising graduate orchestral conducting students.
    Community engagement and leadership with outreach programming.
    Excellence in conducting music ensembles at the professional and/or collegiate/university level.
    Creative/scholarly activities such as workshops and clinics, conducting honors orchestras, community or youth music activities, and adjudication.
