    Field Services Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic
    To complete jobs assigned by the Job Foreman. Checks the equipment prior to use on specific jobs. Notifies the Foreman when equipment breaks down and needs repairs. Handles job problems with little direction from Foremen. In the course of their jobs, heavy equipment mechanics typically fulfill the following responsibilities: Perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles and machinery, such as calibrating and cleaning instruments and gauges. Monitor equipment and quickly and accurately identify and diagnose malfunctions. Contribute to the Team effort for success by working wherever they are needed when they are available.

    Requirements


    • Able to accept and use clear and concise directions in order to complete work
    assignments

    • Able to complete all required daily, weekly and monthly paperwork in a timely and
    effective manner with little or no corrections from the Foreman.

    • Able to respond positively to any inquires and/or complaints from the Field
    Superintendents, Foreman, Super Foreman and other employees.

    • Able to correctly run equipment

    • Able to travel to and from locations as needed

    • Able to work outside requiring tolerance of outside temperatures including excess
    heat, cold and precipitation

    • Physical presence required

    • Face to Face/In Person Meetings

    • Regular attendance

    Reporting Relationships

    • Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic reports to their Foreman on their assigned jobs

    Responsibilities

    • Complete all daily, weekly and monthly tasks
    • Ensure all required paperwork and conditions are met and followed as designed
    • Ensure the work area is clean and kept that way all the time
    • Ensure the work area is accessible
    • Ensure their equipment is clean
    • Ensure they deal effectively with problems and redo's as they arise
    • Listen to any and all direction that is given and then follow them
    • When it is inclement weather they do not come to work for the mandatory two hours if there is no work
    • Ensures they are doing their assigned jobs, taking their breaks when possible, and being a productive worker without having the Foreman looking for them.

    Duties

    • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
    • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
    • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
    • Must have a valid driver's license to drive a company vehicle.
    • They are able to understand general or conceptual drawings, including materials, methods of attachment, and any information necessary to make that drawing clear and complete.
    • Revises their work duties per approved change orders
    • Can run other pieces of equipment, as needed
    • Internal combustion engines and components, both stationary and mobile
    • Tracked equipment, commonly called crawler tractors
    • Ground engaging equipment and components, earth moving equipment, rubber tired equipment, commonly called tractors, on-highway and off-highway motor vehicles, commonly called trucks, and towed on-highway and off-highway vehicles, commonly called trailers.
    • Interpret work orders and technical manuals, keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained, diagnose faults or malfunctions
    • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations, and complete service reports.

    Working Conditions

    • The working environment for heavy equipment technicians varies considerably from one job to another. Some heavy equipment technicians work in modern laboratories. Others work at construction or industrial sites, sometimes outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Travel requirements and hours of work also vary.
    • There is some risk of injury involved in working with heavy equipment and power tools. However, proper safety standards are maintained at all times.

    The work is most rewarding for those who enjoy achieving expertise with precise work, problem solving and working with their hands.
    To be successful in the trade, heavy equipment technicians must have:

    • Must have own tools to complete any possible job task presented to them to resolve
    • Good vision, hearing and sense of smell to diagnose problems
    • The strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions
    • The ability to work alone or as part of a team
    • Mechanical ability and an interest in all types of machinery and engines, electronics and precision equipment
    • The ability to think logically and keep current with changes in technology
    • A valid driver's license to operate company truck, equipment for testing purposes
