    Job Summary


    The role of the Development and Grants department is to act as the central oversight for external funding opportunities for the Anchorage School District.

    The Project Support Specialist provides support to ASD departments to co-develop and submit external funding requests to support PK-12 education programs.

    This position will support academic leadership to identify school and program instructional funding needs, and strategically align with the district's goals and long-term objectives.

    The Project Support Specialist reports directly to the Development Director. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

    Job Requirements


    The following are required:

    • An associate's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, finance, project management, or a related discipline.
    • Previous experience in project management or a similar role involving PK-12 project development.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to effectively manage documentation, reporting, and data collection.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to facilitate effective collaboration with project directors, staff members, and external stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.
    • Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Significant experience in professional and technical writing

    The following are preferred:

    • Experience in grant facilitation or grant writing, including the preparation of grant applications and proposals.
    • Knowledge of education systems, particularly in the context of K-12 or higher education.
    • Experience in program evaluation and data analysis, including the use of statistical software.
    • Proficiency in using data tracking and management tools, such as databases and spreadsheets.
    Essential Job Functions


    • Develops proposals: between 50-70% of time will be spent on developing and writing project proposals on behalf of the school district.
    • Effectively uses established information management and architecture to ensure accurate document reporting.
    • Regularly communicates with staff to ensure awareness of reporting requirements and progress. Promoting a culture of transparency and collaboration among staff members by conducting regular team meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and share updates.
    • Facilitates projects to ensure timelines and deliverables are met and that all activities are aligned with external funder requirements.
    • Utilizes internal and external data sources to inform and guide all project development activities.
    Physical /Mental Demands

    The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required.

    The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.

    Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.

    The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

    Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

    While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
