    US Modern Language Spanish Teacher

    The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Upper School Modern Language Spanish teacher for the school year. The candidate will have experience in the Modern Language Classroom, hold at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field and possess a clear educational philosophy, which is consistent with the mission of the school. Experience teaching several levels of Spanish at the high school level is essential.

    Reports To: Department Chair and the US Division Head

    The Successful Modern Language Teacher must:

  • Teach 4 sections of Spanish at varied levels in the Modern Language Department.
  • Hold a degree in Spanish, education, or a related field. A master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students, shepherding their growth in partnership with their families and teachers.
  • Participate in all department, divisional, and school-wide faculty meetings.
  • Stay current with language teaching paradigms and methodologies, at local, state and national levels and share said practices with colleagues.
  • Have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and work to create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive.
  • Display professionalism in working with all stakeholders in the school.
  • Show a desire to work collaboratively with all members of the Shipley Community to positively contribute to the enhancement of our learning community.
  • Develop effective assessments and provide constructive and timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in the life of the School.
  • The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience teaching Spanish to Upper School-aged students (Grades 9-12) and command of appropriate L2 strategies.
  • Demonstrate a superior level of proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Exhibit excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Have experience with content-based instruction to Upper-School aged students.
  • Have experience in comprehension and immersion-based teaching % target language) and appropriate L2 strategies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to execute lessons using a wide variety of authentic materials, from a variety of online platforms.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA) methods as developed by ACTFL.
  • Show interest in Shipley's definition of Educational Excellence and the Shipley Framework for well-being.
  • Demonstrate an excellent ability to differentiate instruction in order to meet students' needs.
  • Work collaboratively with department members to develop a cohesive curriculum that supports student growth at all levels
  • Constructively solicit and use feedback in the classroom.
