    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Operate sewing or non-sewing machine or other manual tools to join, gather, hem, reinforce, mark or decorate articles.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Place spool of thread on spindle of machine and draws thread through machine guides, tensions and eye of needle.
    2. Insert bobbin into shuttle and draws thread through slot in shuttle or draws thread through guide and loop eye.
    3. Press knee lever, depress pedal or move hand lever to raise presser foot or spread feed cups.
    4. Position parts to be joined under presser foot and needle and lowers presser foot.
    5. Start, stop and control speed of machine with pedal or knee lever.
    6. Guide parts under needle following edges, seams, guides on machine bed or markings on part.
    7. Observe stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor or sewing machine mechanic when defects are caused by machine malfunction.
    8. Select sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread or welt according to specifications or color of material.
    9. Cut excess thread or material.
    10. Must follow all machine safety rules.
    11. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
    12. Perform other duties as required or requested, to include non-sewing or manual work such as marking, pick and turn, and trim and inspect.

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job analysis are representative of the skill, and/or ability required.

    Education: High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.

    Experience: One to two years of industrial sewing in a manufacturing setting.

    Specific Skills: Good mechanical aptitude to be able to make the machine adjustments.

    Specialized knowledge, Licenses, etc.: None required.

    Other Skills and Abilities: None.

    Physical Demands: Must be able to sit/stand for longer than eight hours of time. Frequently sits bends, kneels, twist and turn and reaches out with hands/arms. Must be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    RESUMEN DEL PUESTO:

    Opera máquina de coser para coser, fruncir, bastillar, marcar o decorar artículos.

    DEBERES Y RESPONSABILIDADES ESENCIALES:

    1. Productividad debe de estar al 100% de eficiencia.
    2. Coloca el carrete de hilo en la porta carrete de la máquina y enhebra el hilo por las guías de la máquina, los tensores y ojo de la aguja.
    3. Inserta la bobina o carretel en la porta bobina y enhebra hilo por la ranura en la porta bobina o enhebra hilo por la guía y el ojo de la lazada.
    4. Presiona la palanca de rodilla, pisa el pedal o mueve la palanca de mano para levantar el pie prénsatelas o abrir las copas alimentadoras.
    5. Posiciona las piezas a coser bajo el pie prénsatelas y la aguja y baja el pie prénsatelas.
    6. Arranca, detiene y controla la velocidad de la máquina con pedal o palanca de rodilla.
    7. Guía las piezas bajo la aguja siguiendo orillas, costuras, guías en la bancada de la máquina o marcas en la pieza.
    8. Observa las puntadas para detectar defectos y avisa al supervisor o al mecánico de máquinas de coser cuando los defectos son a causa de una avería de la máquina.
    9. Selecciona los suministros de costura tales como ribete, cordón, trenza, cordoncillo, cinta, hilo o bies de acuerdo con las especificaciones o el color del material.
    10. Corta el exceso de hilo o de material
    11. Debe observar todas las reglas de seguridad de la máquina.
    12. Este cargo no tiene responsabilidades de supervisión.
    13. Desempeña otras obligaciones y responsabilidades según se le requiera o solicite.

    REQUISITOS MÍNIMOS DEL PUESTO:

    Para desempeñar satisfactoriamente este cargo la persona debe ser capaz de realizar cada uno de los deberes esenciales en forma satisfactoria. Los requisitos que aparecen a continuación son representativos de los conocimientos, habilidades y/o capacidad necesaria.

    Educación: No se requiere, pero es preferible, tener diploma de Secundaria o GED.

    Experiencia: Uno a dos años en costura industrial en un ambiente de manufactura.

    Habilidades específicas: Buenas aptitudes mecánicas para poder efectuar ajustes a la máquina.

    Conocimientos especiales, licencias, etc.: No se requiere.

    Habilidades y destrezas adicionales: Ninguno.

    Requisitos físicos: Con frecuencia se sienta, dobla, arrodilla, alcanza con los brazos y manos. Debe poder levantar o mover hasta 10 libras y ocasionalmente levantar o mover hasta 25 libras. Se podrán hacer adaptaciones razonables para permitir a las personas con discapacidades desempeñar sus funciones esenciales.

    Ambiente de trabajo: Durante el desempeño de sus deberes, el empleado normalmente se expone a piezas mecánicas en movimiento. Ocasionalmente se expone a vapores o partículas aéreas y a vibración. El nivel de ruido en el ambiente de trabajo generalmente es elevado.
