    Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus is now accepting applications for Sign Language Interpreter II, ACCESS Services. The Sign Language Interpreter II is responsible for providing accommodations to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in campus courses/events.

    Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Provides accommodations to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing (sign language interpretation/transliteration; C-Print captioning) in college, vocational, or community education courses and in other college contexts such as: Student Life or campus events; advisement; and meetings with faculty
    • Provides academic advisement to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
    • Provides faculty consultation and training on accommodating students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
    • Serves to provide a range of support for students who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing that relates directly to retention and program completion
    • Works with the ACCESS Department to assist with scheduling, provide back-up and substitute interpreter/captionist coverage as needed
    • Tutors students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
    • Monitors the progress and maintains records of assigned students
    Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years of experience in the field, of which one (1) year is exclusively interpreting for deaf adults; or an Associate's Degree and nine (9) years of experience, of which one (1) year is exclusively interpreting for deaf adults
    • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) 3.5 or above
    • Intermediate to expert fluency in American Sign Language
    • Trained in C-Print or be trained within 6 months of hire
    • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English for both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign tasks
    • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
    • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
