OverviewThis is unique opportunity as a full-time position at the BAE Systems (BAES) shipyard in the United Kingdom, working within the EB Barrow Field Office (BFO).
You can be part of the Electric Boat team supporting the Dreadnought Class Program The primary intent of this position is to liaison with BAES operations and trades, and support the development and execution of the UK Common Missile Compartment (CMC) build plan.
This role will be responsible for construction problem resolution and response to technical queries raised by the UK within the piping systems engineering portions of the CMC into the Dreadnought submarine platform in support of the Polaris Sales Agreement (PSA).
Responsibilities:
This individual will report directly to the EB BFO Engineering Supervisor. This position is located at the BAES shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, UK.
The successful candidate must have the ability to relocate to the BAES shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, UK for at least 2 years - commitment to longer term is desired.
Job Duties include but not limited to:
Provide technical resolution of problems encountered during the construction of the CMC as part of the UK Dreadnought Submarine Program
Respond to UK technical queries in the areas of design, fabrication, installation, and test requirements, as well as the research of commercial, military, and ships specifications
Daily interface with cognizant BAE Systems trades, designers, program office, material, quality, and/or engineering personnel will be required for consumption of US design, construction, and test information
Reach back to the cognizant Electric Boat technical community, as required, to resolve emergent issues in a time critical environment
Perform side-by-side comparisons of EB provided design documentation with BAE Systems documents as part of the problem investigation / resolution process
Interface with IT, security, and legal teams to ensure office in compliance with PSA and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) reporting requirements
Support BFO and home office initiatives as required
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (i.e., Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Marine)
Minimum of 5 years of submarine piping engineering experience in design, construction, and design-build functions
Experience with IPDE design tools and competence using EB Teamcenter
Demonstrated knowledge of the COLUMBIA CMC design/build, kitting process, and/ or test processes and UK/US CMC Program
Demonstrated experience interfacing with senior government and shipyard leadership
Experience with the CMC design/ functionality, Strategic Weapons System (SWS) and/ or previous SSBN ship designs
Previous experience with working within ITAR and PSA requirements supporting UK foreign nationals
Ability and willingness to relocate to Barrow-in-Furness, UK to support BAE Systems for a minimum of two years
Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel)
Preferred:
10+ years of submarine engineering experience in design, construction, and design-build functions
Experience working in deck plate engineering or supporting shipyard construction efforts
Experience with piping design, installation and/or system testing
Experience working in an off-site design/engineering environment
Previous background in US submarine design programs, IPDE development, IPDE change/configuration management, construction, test, commissioning, or construction support
Ability and willingness to relocate to Barrow-in-Furness, UK to support BAE Systems for more than the minimum of two years
