    Lakeside is an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle. We are currently recruiting for a fulltime Upper School Learning Resources Coordinator for the school year. This position will start with opening meetings in August 2024. Applications will be reviewed starting in mid-March and will continue until the position is filled.


    The Upper School Learning Resources Coordinator will have significant knowledge of learning disabilities and the processes and skills that contribute to learning and retention, and a strong desire to work with high school students.

    The Learning Resources Coordinator maintains the Learning Resources Center and develops and implements learning programming and resources in partnership with the Learning Resources team both at the Upper School and cross-divisionally.

    The Learning Resources Coordinator will work as a collaborative member of the Student Support Team (SST) which includes another learning resources coordinator, three mental health counselors, a family support liaison, the school nurse, the athletic trainer, the financial aid programs director, the head of 5-12 human development and health department, an assistant director, and the director of student and family support.

    They also will work directly with students, teachers, administration, and parents/guardians to help ensure the learning and academic success of our student body.

    Responsibilities


    Provide students with culturally-responsive direct service, time-limited interventions, and assessment for referral purposes - this includes, but is not limited to, teaching time management, study skills, learning strategies, goal setting, and self-advocacy.

    Interface with professionals conducting outside assessments, interpret educational evaluations, write Student Support Plans (the independent school version of a 504 plan), facilitate the academic accommodations process, interface with the teachers, and provide ongoing case management for 15-30 students with documented qualifying learning differences and, in partnership with the school nurse and athletic trainer, for students with complex medical management, including concussions.

    Work with students and families to facilitate the accommodations applications process on national standardized exams.
    Serve as a liaison with parents/guardians, faculty, and administrators about student learning and academic support.

    Provide education on relevant learning resources topics to students and faculty in small groups as well as in larger meetings.

    Be an active and engaged member of the Student Support Team.

    This includes attending and participating in twice weekly Students Support Team meetings to discuss students in need of support, following through on relevant action items, collaborating and consulting with the other Learning Resources Coordinator and Student Support Team as needed, and supporting the Testing Center operations.

    Participate in student academic intervention meetings to provide insight about students' current academic strengths and offer support for areas of growth.

    Maintain an open and inviting atmosphere in the Learning Resources Center including intentionality in appealing to different and diverse groups of students and work in partnership with the Learning Resources team to create and maintain resources and programming.

    While specific content knowledge is not required, gain familiarity with the full curriculum to be able to provide more nuanced strategies and guidance to students

    Stay up to date on relevant professional development with an emphasis on issues of neurodiversity as well as with current laws governing classroom accommodations as they pertain to adolescents and learning support services in schools.

    Act as an advisor for 8 to 10 Upper School students
    Engage in the co-curricular and extra-curricular life of the school community, including a distributed leadership role, such as advising a student club or activity within the school day, joining a standing committee, or chaperoning to be known and recognized by students

    Requirements and Qualifications

    A degree in education or a related field.
    Training in and demonstrated knowledge of learning assistance programs, learning theory, and successful interventions.

    Experience with adolescents in a high school setting is preferred, though those with experience that has focused on early college or late middle school years are also encouraged to apply.

    Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of self and the cultural lenses one brings to interactions.

    A successful candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than one's own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.

    Ability to balance independent work and self-management while also working in a multidisciplinary team and the ability to maintain a sense of humor and see the positive in challenging situations.

    Ability to connect with adolescents while maintaining appropriate boundaries and the ability to generate and implement creative and innovative ideas for engaging and working with students.

    Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate information about complex student information in a respectful and clear manner.

    Familiarity and comfort using computers (PC/Windows and Microsoft Office) is essential.
    Candidates must satisfactorily complete three criminal background checks.

    Salary Range:
    $69,940 - $123,340 based upon experience and education.
