Childcare Provider
As a Childcare Provider at the Darien YMCA, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing and supporting the development of children in our care. This position is essential to our mission of fostering a safe and enriching environment for children while engaging families in our community.
Part-Time Position Available
Monday - Friday
8:45am – 1:00pm
At the Darien YMCA you can utilize your knowledge and skills to supervise and care for children from infants to 8 years old. Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, the Childcare Provider creates a safe, enjoyable and welcoming environment where children can thrive.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Supervise and monitor the safety of children at all times, including meal and rest times.
- Prepare meals or snacks according to parents' guidance and program policies.
- Change diapers of infants and toddlers when appropriate.
- Organize and oversee play activities for children that allow them to learn about the world and explore interests. Create positive rapport with all children.
- Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, playtime and nutrition.
- Keep records of children's routines, progress, preferences and activities.
- Respond to parent inquiries about their child's well-being and participation in the program.
- Ensure all toys, mats, chairs, tables and other program equipment/materials are routinely sanitized and stored properly and in accordance with program policies.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Perform other duties pertaining to the Childcare Provider role deemed necessary, reasonable, and appropriate as instructed by Youth Development Director.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children (2+ years preferred)
- Knowledge of children's age-appropriate activities
- Ability to handle multiple children in a busy environment. Must be able to visually observe children during active and passive pursuits.
- Patience, kindness, and strong interpersonal skills
- Reliable and dependable
- Ability to work and communicate well with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Possess effective written and verbal communication
- First Aid and CPR certified (or willingness to obtain)
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional childcare or early childhood education certifications are a plus)
- Ability to work as a team with Director and other staff.
- Must submit to background check and fingerprint screening
