Description
of the Job:
A postdoctoral position in bioinorganic chemistry is available for a skilled and enthusiastic chemist within the multidisciplinary Lucas Labs at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond ( ).
The principal research topic will be centered around the elucidation of bioinspired mechanisms, including the synthesis of tunable coordination complexes and/or metal peptides/proteins that activate natural oxidants and the mechanistic characterization of their reactivity profiles.
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline and prior experience with air-free synthetic procedures and handling techniques.
Applications are sought from dedicated and hardworking candidates with expertise in the spectroscopic characterization of compounds and reaction pathways, including NMR, GCMS, FTIR, UV/vis, and EPR.
Ideal candidates will have additional experience with specialized methodologies, such as resonance Raman (rR) spectroscopy or laser induced photochemical processes, but this is not necessarily required for a successful application.
The successful candidate will be expected to independently design, execute, and analyze experiments, to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, and to promote a collegial and rigorous laboratory environment.
The initial appointment is for one year with a review after 6 months; renewal beyond 1 year is contingent on milestones achieved.
