    Job DescriptionThe Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a one-year internship for dentists who are interested in gaining an additional year of experience in oral surgery.

    This is an opportunity for dentists to increase their knowledge and for potential application to a postgraduate OMS residency program.

    The intern will receive similar education and training as that of a first year OMS resident in our six -year training program.

    This one-year program does not count towards completion of a formal accredited OMS residency program. This program is not accredited by the American Dental Association or the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.
    The intern spends twelve (12) months on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service within the organization.
    • Works closely with the chief residents and faculty in providing ambulatory patient care.
    • Could assume responsibility for inpatients under the supervision of the chief residents and assists the staff with operating room cases.
    • Will provide care to at least 20 patients per day in the outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic.
    • Take in-house call no more than once every 3 nights averaged over 4 weeks within the organization and at Children's Mercy Hospital.
    • The intern will demonstrate knowledge about established and evolving clinical and cognate sciences, and the application of this knowledge to patient care.
    • Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of patients seen in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic.
