- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols in assigned areas of the MetroParks
- Verify all doors, windows and gates are secure on assigned closed properties
- Observe and immediately report policy violations, crime, suspicious activity or other concerns to law enforcement on duty
- Document and report property damage, vandalism and/or traffic impediments
- Assist the general public as needed, provide information about the MetroParks and explain rules and regulations
- Utilize radio to communicate with on-duty law enforcement as needed
- Complete and maintain daily activity logs, incident reports and any other required paperwork
- Assist as needed with any MetroParks wildlife program
- Ensure that all MetroParks rules and regulations are followed
- Provide support for internal and external special activities and events (i.e. parking, event security, large crowds)
- Ensure all rental policies are enforced and followed
- Maintain a visible, approachable, and friendly presence at MetroParks events and rentals
- Provide intra-departmental support as needed
- Collaborate with Supervision in the development and preparation of short term as well as long-range department goals and objectives
- Perform additional duties as determined by the Chief of Police
- Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment utilizing sound judgement
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing with a wide variety of persons
- Courtesy and control of temper
- Maintain the ability to identify issues and gather needed information to solve problems logically

- Knowledge of and ability to enforce current MCMP policies, rules, regulations and state law
- Must be willing and able to obtain pepper spray and First Aid/CPR certifications within 6 months of hire
- Prior security or loss prevention experience preferred
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to walk, traverse or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites and all properties under control of the Park District under all types of conditions and weather for purposes of police patrol, investigations, apprehension of suspects and any other matters requiring police action
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, kneel or stoop for extended periods of time
- Ability to see, hear and speak clearly

Summary – The Park Ranger's chief responsibility is to conduct property surveillance, assist visitors and monitor special events. This individual must obey orders and instructions of the on-duty law enforcement personnel in the performance of duties. This is an unarmed position. The Park Ranger will utilize a police patrol vehicle. This position suitable for transitional duty.
