    Description

    Title: Optical Network Engineer
    Location: NYC, NY
    Duration: 6+ months

    Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Implementation, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Cisco optical transport networks.
    • Participate in designing Cisco optical transport networks.
    Education and Experience:
    • Deep understanding of DWDM and OTN technologies.
    • Experience working with large enterprise or service provider networks.
    • Deep understanding of optical amplifiers and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems/networks.
    • Hands-on experience on Cisco Company 1000 and Company 2000 product lines.
    • Hands-on experience working on Cisco Transport Controller and Cisco EPNM.
    • Hands-on experience designing optical networks using the Cisco Transport Planner.
    • Deep understanding of Cisco Flex-spectrum technology, control planes, WSON and SSON.
    • Have experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting Cisco DWDM networks (non-coherent and coherent).
    • Experience with measurements, concepts, and equipment for characterization of fiber optical communications systems such as OTDR, BER measurements, OSNR, dispersion, PMD, and optical spectrum analyzers.
    • SONET/SDH background.
    • Customer support experience.
    • Understanding the concept of IPoDWDM, RON, and disaggregated DWDM.
    • Attended at least one of the following official Cisco trainings OPT200, OPT201, OPT300, or legacy ones, COTI, COTA, MSTP-BASIC, MSTP-DATA, MSTP-ATD.
    Secondary Network Engineering Experience that would be beneficial:
    • Experience working on Cisco Enterprise routers & switches (Nexus and Company platforms)
    • Experience working with Cisco ACI.
    • Experience working on Check Point & Palo Alto Firewalls.
    • Excellent understanding of all routing protocols
    • Excellent understanding of switching and layer 2 protocols
    • Experience working with Cisco Client
    • Experience working with Cisco VoIP and Wireless products.
    • Experience working on F5 / AVI load balancers.
    • Experience deploying and managing remote access VPNs.
    • Good understanding of Microsoft Active directory
    • Experience working with Fortinet based SDWAN networks.
    • Experience managing virtual networks in Azure.
    • Experience working with VMWare NSX
    • Experience working with NetScout nGenius / VMWare vRNI / Cisco Tetration
    • Experience working with network monitoring systems OpManager / Solarwinds / ScienceLogic.
    Skills:
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Good organizational skills.
    • Ability to prioritize workload while managing customer commitments.
    • Strong written/verbal communication skillset.
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
    • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Solid experience supporting the entire engineering lifecycle, translating business requirements to technical requirements, designing, testing, deploying, and troubleshooting optical transport solutions.
    • Ability to quickly diagnose the problem areas and come up with solutions and/or workarounds.
    • Ability to understand the requirements and analyze the technical feasibility and design against the requirements.
    • Experience coordinating the delivery of project milestones, ensuring projects stay on target, escalating, and identifying roadblocks when relevant.
